Open Letter to the United States Congress

What do you say to the dead? As you ponder your threat to stop the vote in the Senate on the proposed health care bill, I want you to think about what you are going to say to the dead. Yes, the 144 people who died today because they could not get medical care.

What do you say to the woman who died today because she could not afford a mammogram and her breast cancer was not detected soon enough to save her life?

What do you say to he man who lost his job and could not afford the horrendously expensive heart medication he needed to stay alive as he lay dead in the emergency room table?

What do you say to the child who will never run and play again because his parents could not afford to take him to the doctors in time? What do you say to the dead?

Do you tell them you were more concerned with keeping your job than doing what is right? Do you tell them you were more concerned with keeping the campaign contributions you receive from big insurance companies than about whether they lived or died? Do you tell them you think big insurance company profits are more important than human life; their life.

What do you say to the millions of Americans waiting for you to do the right thing?

When you turn off the lights tonight and lay in the darkness waiting for sleep to take you, think about what you are going to say to the dead when you block the vote on health care reform. What are you going to say to the dead?

Linda
